The structure and function of automobile half shaft

The automobile half shaft, also called the drive shaft, is installed between the differential or final reducer gear and the wheel. It is composed of two sets or one set of constant velocity universal joints, an intermediate shaft (core shaft) and other parts. It is a solid shaft that transmits large torque between the differential and the drive axle.

The inner end of the automobile half shaft is generally connected to the side gear of the differential through splines, while the outer end is connected to the wheel housing of the drive wheel through flange disks or splines. Its main function is to transmit the power from the differential to the left and right drive wheels.
